Web Design is the design process relating to the front-end (client side) design of a website including writing markup. It encompasses many different skills and disciplines in the production and maintenance of website. The different areas of web design & application include web graphic design, interface design, authoring including standardized code and proprietary software, user experience design and search engine optimization.

Web Based Applications (web apps) are any programs that are accessed over a network connection using http rather than existing within a device’s memory. Web based applications often run inside a web browser. However web based applications may also be client-based. Where a small part of the program is downloaded to user’s desktop, but processing is done over the internet on an external server.

In web based applications we encompass all of the applications that communicate with user via http. This includes applications like flash games, online calculators, calendars and so on. As well as the more intensive applications such as web based word processors and spreadsheet applications.

Web based applications have several advantages over traditional desktop applications, most prominently their portability. With web based applications user does not have to install additional software. Apart from that we as the developer do not have to write multiple versions of the same application for different operating systems.

Web based applications can be a valuable tool for businesses since they are capable of assisting managers in:

  • Tracking performance records of individual workers.
  • Managing passenger or cargo transportation.
  • Monitoring financial processes.
  • Working with payroll.
  • Controlling workflow of individual staff members and project groups.

We can achieve all of this by writing a single web based application that will be run on a server. The application can be written in various programming languages and make use of multiple technologies and frameworks. Web based applications will run on client computer’s browser no matter what operating system is installed. This makes web based applications as one of the most universal cross platform solutions available today.
